HAZEL ADKINS HARTMAN

Hazel Adkins Hartman, 91, of Delray Beach, FL, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, and was ushered into the presence of God.

She was born to Walter and Bessie Bickel Adkins in Diamond Creek, KS, on February 6, 1923. Walter and Bessie lived in Cottonwood Falls where Hazel graduated from Chase County High School in 1940. She then attended business college in Wichita, KS. She met her late husband, Howard I. Hartman, at an airplane factory during WWII. After the war, they moved to 210 S. Union in Emporia, where Howard worked as a candy and tobacco salesman in Emporia.

Hazel had 28 exciting years as the personal executive secretary of Eugene Lynn of Lynn Insurance and Lynn University. After years living on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO, she moved with Lynn Insurance to Boca Raton, Fl. She retired at 68 and was active in her community at Abbey Delray volunteering every chance she got. She was a blessing to many.

Hazel was an active member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Delray Beach, FL.

Hazel is survived by one sister, Ruth Miser, of Bazaar, KS, who now resides in Edmond, OK. Predeceasing her were her other two Elsie Richards of San Diego, and Wilma Augustine of Strong City.

Her older son, H. Michael Hartman and his wife, Karen, reside in Merriam, KS. They have two married children: Mick and Sarah Hartman of Shawnee Mission, KS, and Denise and Kerry Godwin of Madrid, Spain. Her younger son, Rev. Jack Patrick Hartman and his wife, Patricia, reside in Fort Lauderdale, FL. They have three married children: Chrysalyn and Jeff Huff of Olathe, KS, Jocelyn and Mark Stacer of Overland Park, KS., and Philip and Katie Coury of Campbellsville, KY. She is, also, survived by six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, Hudson Huff of Olathe, KS.

A visitation will be held at Brown-Bennett-Alexander Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls on Friday, March 28, 2014, from 6:30 until 8:00. A celebration of life service will be conducted by her son, J. Patrick Hartman at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Prairie Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the missionary organization where Denise (Hartman) and Kerry Godwin minister. It provides Christian films to a lost world. Please send checks to International Media Ministries, C/O Assemblies of God #2916658, 1445 Booneville, Springfield, MO 65802. Condolence messages may be left with the funeral home.
