Robert O. Hodges, 77, of Fitzgerald, died Sunday, October 27, 2013, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held 11 AM, Saturday, November 2, 2013 at Evergreen Cemetery in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Jeff Parmer officiating. Full military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends from 9-11 Saturday morning at the funeral home.

Mr. Hodges was born September 8, 1936, in Pembroke, Georgia to the late Donald Ogilvie & Geneva Bacon Hodges. He was a 1954 graduate of Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone, where he played football, basketball, track, and was also on the bowling team. He was a member of the Order of DeMolay, Atlantic Chapter, Cristobal, Canal Zone. Following graduation, he attended LeTourneau University in Longview, Texas. He served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 20 years. Mr. Hodges was an expert marksman, served as Chief of Maintenance, and held a TS-SSIR Crypto clearance. He was trained in intercept, multi-plex, and crypto systems. He was a member of the Panama Canal Society and the Mars McDonald Post 99 American Legion. Following his retirement, he received an Associates Degree from Miami-Dade College. He was a former electronics technician having worked for Mosler Safe Company and 3M. He received his universal certification in HVAC from Savannah State and worked in apartment management and maintenance. Mr. Hodges enjoyed collecting and repairing old stereos. He was generous with his time and his talents and could repair almost anything. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed bowling and playing golf.

He is survived by his wife: Loretta Mayo Hodges of Fitzgerald; two granddaughters: Caitlin Hodges of College Station, Texas and Carly Hodges of San Angelo, Texas; and a great-granddaughter: Avery Boatright of San Angelo, Texas. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Christopher Hodges; and two sisters: Betty & Dorothy.
