Opal May Abernathy, 84, of Paris, passed away Wednesday evening, Sept. 9, 2015, at her residence. She was a devoted homemaker.
A graveside memorial service is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, at Edgar Cemetery, with Pastor Chad Hall officiating. Interment will follow. Templeton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Mrs. Abernathy was born July 25, 1931, at Marshall, the daughter of Frieda O'Neal. She married Lee Smith Abernathy May 24, 1947, in Marshall, and he survives.
Other survivors include five sons, Bob (Joyce) Abernathy of Paris, Jerry (Carol) Abernathy of Paris, Jim (Vicky) Abernathy of Tuscola, Rick (Caryn) Abernathy of Paris and Mike (Janet) Abernathy of Paris; two daughters, Linda Kay Bernard of Flemington, N.J., and Christina Starr of Paris; a sister, Norma Tischer of Paris; 15 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Frieda and John O'Neal, three brothers and two sisters.
Mrs. Abernathy was a member and past president of Paris Fraternal Order of Eagles Voiture #4000 and was active in the Marshall Moose Auxiliary for a number of years. She was also an avid bingo player. Memorial donations may be made to the ECCF D.O. it Cancer Support Group.
