The memorial service for Michael Ackerman, Fullerton, CA, formally of Wishek, ND will be held in July of 2010 at the United Church of Christ, Wishek, ND. Burial will be at the Johannesdale Country Cemetery, rural Wishek, ND.
Michael son of Don and Arlys Ackerman was born May 4, 1961 at Jamestown, ND. He spent his childhood in Wishek, ND where his ancestors had homesteaded in the late 1800’s. Michael attended high school and college in Dickinson, ND where he formed lifelong friendships with his fellow 1979 graduates. After a brief stint attending UND at Grand Forks, ND, Mike packed his bags and moved to sunny southern California. He pursued a career as a mechanical engineer earning his Associates Degree in the early 1990’s. Mike was a dedicated and meticulous employee who always put work first and play second. When at play, Mike enjoyed golfing and deep sea fishing. He was able to realize his dream of owning a boat worth of navigating the mighty Pacific Ocean and enjoyed taking friends and family on excursions. Mike was never happier than when he was catching Yellowtail Tuna and was pretty happy even when he didn’t catch anything! Mike had lived in Fullerton, California for many years and considered himself a permanent California transplant having lived in southern California since 1981.
Mike passed away April 6, 2010 at Fullerton, CA after a short battle with cancer. He was 48 years old.
Mike is survived by his parents, Don and Aryls Ackerman, Wishek, ND; two sisters, Gail and Julie; one niece, Mira, who was the apple of his eye and two brother-in-laws, Richard and Steve who share his immediate family’s sorrow. Mike will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
