Aberdeen — The funeral for the Rev. Peter Glen Ackerman, 72, of 111 Elizabeth Drive will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church, 503 S. Jay St. The Rev. Keith Hanson will officiate.

Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday in Greenway Cemetery northwest of Eureka. Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton is in charge of arrangements.

A prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Faulkton, and 6 p.m. Wednesday until the time of service on Thursday at the church in Aberdeen.

He died Saturday, June 6, 1998, at St. Luke's Midland Regional Medical Center.

Peter Glen Ackerman was born Feb. 9, 1926, to Peter and Christina (Klundt) Ackerman on a farm in McIntosh County, N.D. He attended country school and graduated from Zeeland High School. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, in 1952. He earned his Bachelor of Divinity degree from the Evangelical Theological Seminary of Naperville, Ill., in 1955. He did his pastoral internship at Reddick, Ill. He did graduate study at the Biblical Seminary in New York City in 1953 and at McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1955-56. He served as a youth pastor at Lombard, Ill.

He married Lois Cook on Aug. 12, 1954, at Mira Valley Evangelical United Brethren Church near Ord, Neb. He was appointed to serve the Lehr church and the Hope Evangelical United Brethren Church in 1956. While there, he supervised the building of a new church, which opened in September 1959. He served the Lehr church until 1960. He also served at Great Bend, N.D. (1960-63); Langdon, N.D. (1963-70), and Hazen, N.D. (1970-79), before serving churches in Eureka and Artas from 1979-85. He served the United Methodist churches in Cresbard and Northville from 1985-92, and the Kellerton, Hazel and Henry churches in 1992-93. He retired on Aug. 3, 1993, and moved to Aberdeen.

Survivors include his wife of Aberdeen; one son, Peter Joseph (Sandi) Ackerman of Duluth, Minn.; three daughters, Laura Faye (Alan) Sherwood of Kearney, Neb., and twins Cheryl Kaye (Tony) Pedersen and Carol Mae (Paul) Christensen, both of Santa Maria, Calif.; two sisters, Inez Goehring of Ashley and Elina Sayler of Aberdeen; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Caskerbearers will be Gene Knoll, Luke Miller, Lloyd Geweke, Bryan Peterson, Wilfred Cook and Clyde Jundt.
