He was born and raised at Zurich. His parents were John and Marie Acher. He attended grade school in the Zurich area and high school in Chinook.
He graduated from the University of Montana School of Law in 1927 and moved to Helena that year to join the late Wellington D. Rankin in a law practice. Just a year ago a reception was held for him by his family in his law offices celebrating 50 years as a member of the Montana and American Bar Associations.
Mr. Acher had served as assistant U.S Attorney and was helpful in many worth-while organizations.
He was always ready to assist his home town Zurich and surrounding area. He was a great man and a brilliant lawyer.
He was preceded in death by a son, John, who also practiced law and a daughter, Ann Acher Byorth of Billings.
His survivors are his wife Betty of Helena, daughter Kathy Reid of Selah, Washington and Judy Butter of Spokane. He is also survived by a son-in-law, Dr. J.P. Byorth of Billings and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Mary Alice Acher of Missoula, 16 grandchildren, his two step children, Denise and Brad of Helena, and two cousins Ivor and Albert Acher of Chinook.
Funeral services were held in Helena at the Hagler Mortuary Chapel Monday morning. Graveside rites were at the Chinook Cemetery at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. W.C. Sterns of Havre officiated.
