Ivor Hazen Acher was born on his father's homestead five miles east of Chinook on September 14, 1897 to Charles and Maggie Acher.
He attended East Chinook School and graduated there from the eighth grade. After two years of high school, he tried and passed the teacher's examination. He then taught school north of Zurich for 18 months when he was 19 years old.
Then came World War I so he took special training in mechanics at Kansas City, Missouri to prepare for service. Then the war ended so he came home and went to work for dirt moving contractors which include Ort Irions, John Toney, Winterrowds and Flynn Brothers.
Then about 1927 he went to work for Blaine County and helped there for three years as heavy equipment operator.
On April 2, 1930, her married Martha Wisch and they ranched east of Chinook until 1968, raising Black Angus cattle.
Their only son, James Ronald Acher, was born August 27, 1937.
Ivor and Martha retired to Chinook in 1968.
Ivor passed away on May 11, 1986 after a short illness, at the Harlem Rest Home.
Ivor was preceded in death by his father, Charles G. Acher, his mother, Maggie L. Acher, and his brother, Charles E. (Bud) Acher.
He is survived by his wife, Martha M. Acher, Chinook; his son James R. Acher, Harlem; one sister, Daisy M. Ronney of Salem, Oregon; one brother, Albert L. Acher, Chinook and two grandchildren, Mikel W. Acher of Billings; Sandra L. Acher of Casper, Wyoming, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held May 14, 1986 at 2 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Mitch Dietz will officiate. Burial will be in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery.
