Prudence Secelia Halvorsen, of Mansfield, Texas, passed away November 12, 2015. She was born in Ryder, North Dakota on May 18, 1915. Prudence (Prue) received her undergraduate degree at Mayville State College (now University) and her master's degree at the University of North Dakota.
She was married to Vernon G. Halvorsen on May 15, 1940.
Prue had a career in teaching; first in elementary grades with the Fourth Grade being her favorite level, and eventually completing her teaching career as a Junior High remedial reading teacher.
She was a life-long Lutheran and very active in her church and community organizations. Prue had a passion for teaching, reading, walking, Bible study, bridge, golf, and was devoted to her family and friends. She also had a deep passion for hot, black coffee.
She was survived by her children and their spouses, Marc and Shirley Halvorsen of Houston, Texas and Vicki and Dailey Taylor of Mansfield, Texas; her grandson Christopher A. Berg (and fiancé Elizabeth Hancock) of Houston, Texas; her sister, Sylvia Carlson of Casper, Wyoming; and many deeply loved nieces and nephews.
Prue's memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, December 5, 2015, at Lord of Life Lutheran Church (ELCA). The church is located at 700 E Ovilla Road, Glenn Heights, Texas. (It is one mile west of I-35E on Ovilla Road.)
Memorials in her name may be given to her beloved current congregation, Lord of Life Lutheran Church, PO Box 640, Glenn Heights, TX; the Multiple Sclerosis Society; or to a charity of your choice.
