Graveside services for Vera Odessa Foster, 97, of Marietta, were held at 2 p.m., Monday, August 23, in Lakeview Cemetery, Marietta, with the Rev. Tommy Higle officiating.

Mrs. Foster was born February 9, 1907, at Rising Star, Texas, the daughter of Loyd and Lillie Pearl Weathers Acrea. She died Saturday, August 21, 2004, in Mercy Memorial Health Center, Ardmore.

A homemaker, Mrs. Foster had been a resident of Love County most of her life. She and Carl D. Foster were married November 6, 1926, in the Shady Dale community, and he preceded her in death on November 1, 1974. Mrs. Foster worked at Camp Howze, J.C. Penney and also at Hicks Department Store. A member of Marietta's First Baptist Church, she was very involved in her church and also the Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl Jr. and Jo Lee Foster of Ardmore and Rayburn and Rosemary Foster of Karnack, Texas; a daughter, Joyce Barnett of Pittsburg, Kansas; four grandchildren, Linda Russell, Jim Barnett, Pat Barnett and Kevin Foster; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Foster was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth Burkhart and Dottie Mae Burkhart; and a grandson, Stephen Foster.

Honorary pallbearers were Norman Flanagan, Jack Higgins, Butch Sykora, Lewis Foster, Bob Burkhart, John Burkhart and Bill Russell.

Services were under the direction of Flanagan-Watts Funeral Home, Marietta.
