Annie Laura Carpenter Absher, 88, of Arvonia died peacefully on January 1, 2016 at her home in the presence of her family. She was a teacher for 34 years in the Madison and Buckingham public schools and a former owner of F. R. Absher, Inc.

She was the widow of Franklin Roosevelt "Jack" Absher. She is survived by her three children, Barrye Absher and his wife, Linda, Diane A. Butler and Teresa L. Absher; two sisters, Dicie Jenkins and Mary Dinsmore; grandson Jason Absher and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, William H. Butler and her granddaughter, Kristin Renee Butler.

A funeral service will be held on January 6, 2016 at 11 a.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, with interment at 2 p.m. in the Robinson River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Brightwood. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Diabetes Association.
