Christine G. Abenante, 82, a longtime resident of Alamogordo, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at her home

Christine was born Oct. 1, 1923 in Independence, Kan., to Henry Franklin and Geneva (Nickell) Peters, and had lived in Alamogordo since 1937. For 30 years she was a dental assistant for Dr. Harvey Robertson. She was a member of First Assembly Worship Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Stewart, of Alamogordo; three sons, Bob Watkins, of Alamogordo, Steve Abenante and his companion Carrie, of Alamogordo, and Ron Abenante and his wife Maria, of San Diego; five grandchildren, Capt. Shane Jones, serving with the Army Special Forces in Iraq, and his wife Lisa, of Ft. Bragg, N.C., Shawna Murphy and her husband Leo, of Alamogordo; Cheri Arrellano and her husband David, of Lamesa, Texas, Megan Abenante, of Alamogordo, and Dustin Abenante, of Ohio; seven great-grandchildren, Darian, Ryleigh and Taylor Murphy, of Alamogordo, Cody and Casey Jones, of Ft. Bragg, and Justin and Ashley Turner, of Texas; a sister, Vivian Pleasant, of Merritt Island, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 11 a.m. in the Hamilton-O'Dell Chapel with the Rev. Arlena Haynie officiating.

Interment will follow in Monte Vista Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Leo Murphy Sr., Israel Murphy, Oscar Veyna, Jimmy Sanderson, Mike Bowen and Shawn Sanderson.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Hamilton-O'Dell Funeral Home.
