Gladys loved working outside in her yard and flowers and was known for having a pristine home, yard and beautiful flowers. She was also known for her 'rock' gardens, which was made from rocks that Gladys had collected and that friends had given her for her garden. She was very kind hearted and was always thinking of others and helping in whatever way she could. Gladys loved her family and especially loved taking care of her grandchildren.
As a young girl, Gladys moved to Bristol and made ammunition for the soldiers during WWII at the Lincoln Ammunition Company. She later worked in the packing department at Iron Mountain Stoneware for many years. Gladys was a member of Pleasant Home Baptist Church.
Gladys is survived by one son, Dean Gentry and wife Carolyn; daughters: Helen Harless and Arlene Atwood, all of Laurel Bloomery, TN; grandsons: Stevie Hampton and wife Lori Beth, Donnie Hampton and wife Kim, Jackie Atwood and wife Scarlet; Tracy Atwood and wife Christie; Dean Gentry and fiancé Bonnie, Justin Gentry and wife Malori; great grandsons: Tyler Hampton, Logan Hampton, Hunter Atwood, Dalton Atwood and Austin Gentry; great granddaughters: Macy Hampton and Cooper Atwood; great-great granddaughter, Aleah Hampton; sister, Virgie Gentry.
Funeral Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2016 at the Mountain City Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Bowers to officiate. Graveside service and interment will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the State Line Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Gladys' grandsons: Jackie Atwood, Tracey Atwood, Stevie Hampton, Donnie Hampton, Dean Gentry and Justin Gentry. Honorary pallbearers are Hunter Atwood, Dalton Atwood, Tyler Hampton, Logan Hampton, Austin Gentry and memoriam pallbearer is Ronnie Hampton.
The family will receive friends from 6-7:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
