Anthony “Tony” Prough, 63, Minot, passed away on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 in his home surrounded by his loving family.

Anthony Jay “Tony” Prough was born on May 17, 1952, a son of Irvin E. and LaRayne (Toy) Prough . He was raised and educated in Plentywood, MT and Minot.

On May 19, 1969, Tony enlisted into the United States Navy. He proudly served his country, receiving the National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on April 1, 1972. Following his discharge, he returned to Minot, where he began a career at the Minot Air Force Base Fire Department on April 1, 1974.

Tony was united in marriage to Peggy Dutenhafer on August 23, 1974 at St. Leo the Great Roman Catholic Church in Minot. They made their home in Minot, where Tony continued to work at the Air Force Base until his retirement as Assistant Chief on April 1, 2003. Retirement years brought Tony to new adventures. He owned and operated Fire Equipment Company for several years. He also drove many miles working for Ryan Family Dealerships.

He was a member of Minot Shrine Club, Moose Lodge, Minot American Legion Post #26, VFW club, and Our lady of Grace Catholic Church, all of Minot. He spent countless hours volunteering within the Minot area.

Tony enjoyed traveling with Peggy, golfing, fishing, and spending time with his children and eight grandsons. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by all that knew him.

Tony is survived by:Wife of 41 years, Peggy, Minot; Son: Shane (Mary) Prough, Minot; Daughter: Heather (Trent) Thomas, Minot; Eight grandsons: Dylan, Brenden, Keagan, Michael, Jack, Thomas, Charlie and Daniel; One brother: Irvin (Ellen) Prough, Minot; four sisters: Barbara (Carl) Bargabos, Cashton, WI, Cynthia (David) Bargabos, Salem, OR, Penni Holland, Salem, OR, Dianne Williams, Aumsville, OR; brothers-in-law: Jason Dutenhafer, Wayne Dutenhafer, Terry (Stephanie) Dutenhafer, Bruce Dutenhafer; Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, brother Thomas, mother and father in law Jack and Delores Dutenhafer, and a sister-in-law Linda Dutenhafer.
