Mr. J. L. McMillan of Pleasant Shade died at 3:10 a.m. Sunday morning September 1, 2013 at the Palace of Red Boiling Springs where he had made his home since October 25, 2012. He was 78.

Memorial visitation and graveside services are scheduled for Sunday afternoon September 15th at 3 p.m. at the McMillan Family Cemetery in the Austin Hollow at Pleasant Shade. Family members will deliver the eulogies. Mr. McMillan was cremated Thursday September 5th at Cumberland Family Services in Algood.

Born J. L. McMillan in Red Boiling Springs on September 9, 1934 he was one of eleven children of the late Rex McMillan Sr. and was the son of the late Daisy Heady McMillan.

His step-mother Mary McMillan died June 19, 1995 at the age of 73.

Siblings preceding him in death were Doyle McMillan who died at the age of 63 on April 28, 2004, Rex Clay McMillan Jr. who died at the age of 37 on October 17, 1977, Patricia McMillan Abel who died at the age of 59 on September 5, 2005, Buddy McMillan who died at the age of 58 on May 20, 2006 and Raymond McMillan who died at the age of 63 on April 28, 2004.

He was married in Hartsville on July 15, 1962 to Lebanon native the former Roxie Goolsby. She preceded him in death on February 2, 2013 at the age of 85 following almost fifty years of marriage.

Mr. McMillan was a security guard for the State of Tennessee for over fifteen years serving at the Clover Bottom Hospital.

He was of the Missionary Baptist faith.

Surviving are two sisters, Daisy McMillan Thompson of Pleasant Shade, Betty Chambers and husband Fred of Hartsville; brothers, Jerry McMillan of Pleasant Shade, Comer McMillan of Lebanon and Paul McMillan of Kentucky.
