BENTON, LA - Services will be held for Denison "D.C." Abbitt age 83, at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel in Haughton, LA on Monday April 25, 2016 at 3:30pm. Bro. Robert Beadle will be officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Haughton, LA. Visitation will be Sunday April 24th from 3-5pm at Hillcrest.
Mr. Abbitt was born November 18, 1932 in Minden, LA to Metz Abbitt of Paris, TX and Susie Pevy Abbitt of Minden, LA. He passed away on Wednesday April 20, 2016 at Willis Knighton in Bossier City, LA.
He was a Christian, member of First Baptist Benton where he served as a Deacon. He was an Army Veteran and served two years at Fort Hood, TX in the First Armored Division. He worked for the V. A. Medical Center for thirty three years and retired in 1988. He was a devoted husband and a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Abbitt of Benton, LA; daughter Linda and husband Ray Flowers of Bossier City, LA; grandson Dennis and wife Nicole Flowers of Haughton, LA; granddaughter Sheryl and husband Phillip Strozier of Bossier City, LA; two great grandsons Matthew and Zachery Strozier of Bossier City, LA; and a great granddaughter Madison Flowers of Haughton, LA. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter Sheryl Denise Abbitt, six brothers, five sisters, and a grandson Christopher Wayne Flowers.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Flowers, Phillip Strozier, Weldon Brooks, Steven Brooks, George Brooks, Ricky Brooks, and Honorary Pallbearer Ray Flowers.
The family would like to say thank you to all the friends and family that loved and brought so much joy to Dennison during his short time here with us. Also, a special thanks to the Doctors and staff in the CCU and 4th floor step down at Willis Knighton in Bossier City, LA. We want to thank you for the care and compassion each of you showed him and his family during his final days.
