Roy Cecil Abshire, 74, of Stewartsville, died Sunday, November 19,1995.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jean Shay Abshire; one son and daughter-in-law, Richard L. and Myra Abshire; one daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jo A. and William E. Bishop, all of Stewartsville; two grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, David R. and Michelle Benner, Roanoke, Dwayne R. Rutrough, Fincastle; one granddaughter, Casey Jean Abshire, Stewartsville; two great-granddaughters, Micci Benner, Roanoke, Icia Benner, Roanoke; three stepgranddaughters, April Estes, Stewartsville, Amy Batiz, Fincastle, Robyn Schaffer, Atlanta, Ga.; stepgreat-grandchildren, Hanna and William Batiz, Fincastle; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Woodrow W. and Roselia Abshire, Copper Hill, C. T. and Alvera Abshire, Boones Mill; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith Abshire Bussey, Rocky Mount, Ethel A. and Lawrence Myers, Moneta, Mary A. and Jesse Tyree, Ferrum. Also surviving are his in-laws, George D. and Gaynelle Shay, Roanoke, Nancy Shay and Bill Moore, Stanford, Fla., Martha Shay and Albert Pendleton, Roanoke, Carolyn Shay and Nathan Hale, Christiansburg, William M. and Diane Roberts, Roanoke. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

The family wants to express deep appreciation to the wonderful nursing staff of 8 South, M.S.I.C.U and Progressive Care Unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and to Dr. Joseph Austin, Dr. Donald D. Nolan, Dr. Gentry, Dr. Sam Williams and Gwen; and a special thank-you to Dr. Dewey J. Bailey Jr. for his 30 years of loving care.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 21, 1995 at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, with the Rev. Will Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Vinton. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, November 20, 1995, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel.
