Alice May Abrahamson, 94, of Paxton passed away at 10:35 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at Heartland Healthcare Center, Paxton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 13, 2016 at The First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 301 S. College Street, Paxton with Rev. Deb Domeier officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Sunday at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton and at the church Monday prior to the service from 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Alice was born January 14, 1922 in Pekin a daughter of John and Ruth LaRosh Hanson. She married Everett M. Abrahamson December 25, 1945 in rural Loda. He preceded her in death July 1, 1997.

She is survived by a son, Darrell (Janet) Abrahamson of rural Loda; a daughter, Linda (Jim) Wetzel of Washington; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Lois (Wendell) Frette of Paxton and a brother, John (Marjorie) Hanson of Neillsville, Wisconsin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Alice spent her childhood in Pekin, Rankin and Paxton. She attended Rankin School and graduated from Paxton High School. She attended Illinois State Teachers College for two years, received her Teaching Certificate and began teaching. She later returned to Illinois State University, Normal and received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1965. She was an elementary school teacher, having taught 29 years in the Paxton School District.

She and her husband lived on the family farm in Wall Twp. until 1978 when they moved to Paxton. She was a member of The First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Paxton, First Lutheran Church Women and a former Sunday school teacher. She was also a member of the Ford County Retired Teachers, Ford County Home Extension, Governor Thomas Ford D.A.R. and a 4-H leader.

For 15 years, she and her husband wintered in Phoenix, Arizona. She enjoyed reading, quilting and cross stitching. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the age of 80 she learned to use a computer and never looked back. This lead to the beautiful writing of her memoirs.
