James Granville Curtis was born in 1857 in Missouri to Sparta and Margaret Turnbull Curtis. He married Nancy Jane Copeland on November 18, 1880, in Stone, Arkansas. James and Nancy had six children: Samuel N, James W, John Lewis, Sarah Elizabeth Curtis Sexton Woody Stultz, Phillip J, and Sherman Isaac Curtis.
The 1860 census lists James living with his parents and 4 siblings in Richland, Missouri. In 1870, 15 year old James is living with a Copeland family in Pulaski, Illinois. He is a farm laborer. The 1900 census lists James , Nancy and their six children living in Matney, Arkansas. They are living in a rented farm house. This is the last census that James is listed on and the 1910 census list Nancy as a widow.
2nd Great Uncle James passed between 1900 and 1910 in Baxter, Arkansas. His burial is unknown. Nancy passed after 1910. Her burial is unknown also.
