She was born Dec. 25, 1927 in Detroit, a daughter of Harold Wayne and Florence (Lavanture) Delaney. She married Herman Ackerman on June 30, 1945 in the American Lutheran Church, Rantoul. He preceded her in death on April 29, 1999.
She is survived by six children, Evalyn Lindsey, Duaine (Beverly) Ackerman, Sharon Ackerman, Florence (William) Loveless, Bernard Ackerman and Richard (Marc Lelling) Ackerman; three sisters, Mary Shaffer, Catherine Funk and Ruth Newman; a brother, James (Jacque) Delaney; 14 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Ben, who passed in 1949; a brother, Richard Delaney and two granddaughters, both named Michelle.
Hazel worked at Collegiate Cap and Gown in Champaign for 25 years.
