Our hearts broke with the passing of Carl Ladon Herring on July 3rd, 2016. He was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle and Mentor. Growing up in Alma, GA as the youngest of eight, and born in August of 1938, he generated strong roots in the community.

Upon graduating High School in Bacon County, he joined the US Army in 1956 and after an honorable discharge in 1960 held a long, successful career with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida, retiring in 1994. Most importantly, it was at Blue Cross Blue Shield that he met the love of his life, his wife of 54 years, Joan. Carl and Joan enjoyed a robust life together taking in the joys of raising a family in Jacksonville that included their two sons, Shane and Cory and daughter, Jenny. They enjoyed traveling, building a business and eventually settling down to their beloved lake home.

In his retirement, Carl experienced all of the goals he set for himself. He acquired and managed his dream farm, spent quality time with his wife, children and their families and friends. If you happened to cross paths with Carl in the last 20 years, you probably have heard stories about his farm for as long as you were able to stay and talk. Carl was strong in his faith and He and Joan were long standing members of Murray Hill Baptist Church in Jacksonville, until moving to Melrose where they found a church family at Trinity Baptist of Keystone Heights.

Carl was predeceased by his beloved Mother and Father, (Addie and Seward), all of his seven Brothers and Sisters, (Almeeta, Cleo, Glen, Edwin, Launcy, Janell and Daniel Vaughn).

He is survived by his cherished wife, Joan, his adoring children, Shane (Lisa), Cory (Charlotte), Jenny (Eric) and his Grandchildren, Scott, Rebekkah, Jarrod (Kelly), Joshua (Eva), Jade and Zachary, Sister in Law, Dena and many Nephews and Nieces.

He will be dearly missed by all. A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 9th at 11:00 AM at Stewart Cemetery. Crosby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
