Earl E. "Jiggs" Abshier, 82, of Parsons and longtime auctioneer and cattleman, died at 4:24 a.m., Monday at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City, Kansas. He had been in failing health for the past four months. His wife Doris survives of the home. He was born June 8, 1923 to C. E. and Gertie (Bourquin) Abshier of Bartlett, Kansas. The family moved to Angola where he grew up and attended school. He was a lifelong Labette County resident and currently lived in Parsons. He was an auctioneer and cattleman for over 60 years.On April 13, 1979, he married Doris (Loyd) Randall. She survives of the home. Other survivors include a son, Steve Abshier and his wife, Heather of Califon, New Jersey; a daugter, Judy Hull and her husband, Leon of Kansas City, Kansas; Three granddaughters; Four Great-grandchildren and two sisters, Eula Vandermark and Elaine Miller, both of Coffeyville, Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ed and Roy Abshier. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Altamont with Rev. Florence Espeseth officiating. Burial will follow at the Lake Creek Cemetery in Bartlett. The family will receive friends at the Bath-Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home from 12 to 1 p.m., Thursday.
