Susan Sams Acton of Port Orange, Florida passed away unexpectedly at home on Thursday July 7, 2016. She was 70 years old. Susan was born in Prattville, Alabama to Walter Birt Sams and Betty Jo (Narramore) Sams while Birt was stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base, where he was a pilot. She graduated from Pineville High School in Pineville, Louisiana in 1963. Following high school, Susan attended Louisiana State University and later Daytona State College. She was known as a caring and outgoing hostess who loved to travel and meet new people. A loving wife and grandmother, with Mark she enjoyed canoeing, hiking, attending sports events, and visiting and spoiling her grandchildren. Her career spanned more than 20 years as a purchasing agent and manager. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Mark Acton; children Helen Stergius and David Stephens; grandchildren Monty and Maren Stephens and Caden and Erin Stergius; mother Betty Jo Narramore Sams; siblings Frances Sams Hart, Walter Sams, and John Sams; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. A casual reception for friends and family will be held at Tomoka Brewing Company on Wednesday July 13 from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. Committal of ashes will be in St. Andrews Cemetery in Darien, Georgia later this summer.
