Velma Garrett Chastain, 80, formerly of Hayesville, North Carolina, died Sunday, February 24, 2008, in Kershaw County, South Carolina.

Born July 29, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Tyrus Winslow Garrett and Bessie Lee Hunter Garrett.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Henry Rosevelt Chastain; daughter, Janie Deanna Chastain Abbott; siblings, China Garrett, Viola Sara Garrett Chastain, Vernie Garrett Chastain, Rosco Edwards, Theina Voilis, Bessi Hampton, and Vassie Mary Brooks.

Surviving are seven children; one sister; two brothers; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at the Townson-Rose Chapel in Hayesville, North Carolina.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2008, at Townson-Rose, Chapel in Hayesville, North Carolina, Reverend Michael Chastain officiating. Burial will be in the Hayesville Baptist-Presbytarian Cemetery in Hayesville, North Carolina.
