Obituary in The Shreveport (LA) Times August 4, 2016:

RUSTON, LA – Billy Joe Adcox, age 84, passed away Tuesday, August 2nd in Ruston, Louisiana surrounded by his family. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday, August 5th, 2016, at 11 AM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston, Louisiana. Visitation will be held at 10:00 A.M., preceding the memorial service at 11:00 A.M. The burial will follow at 3:30 P.M. at the Atlanta Cemetery in Atlanta, Arkansas. Dr. Chris Craig will officiate.

Bill Adcox was born August 7, 1931 in Tuscaloosa, Alabama and graduated from Eldorado High School where he played 4 years of football. He began Louisiana Tech University in 1950. During his football career at Tech, he played offensive guard and line backer and was named to the All-Gulf States Conference team as well as chosen the Most Valuable Lineman his senior year. He received his masters degree from the University of Alabama and was a graduate assistant to Paul “Bear” Bryant. After graduation, Adcox entered the Air Force where he was a lieutenant and served as a base athletic officer. He also played football in the service and was named to the All-Far East Air Force team.

His coaching career began in 1957 at his former high school in El Dorado. Adcox became the offensive line coach at Woodlawn in Shreveport, Louisiana in 1960. He was named Head Coach at Fair Park High School in Shreveport in 1969 where his team won a state championship during his tenure. Adcox began his career at Louisiana Tech University in purchasing and environmental safety in 1977 and retired in 1999.

Mr. Adcox is survived by his wife Shirley Ware Adcox, daughters Kelli Pesnell and husband Todd of Ruston, Kim Womack and husband Jeff of Jackson, Louisiana, son Billy J. Adcox, Jr. and wife Sara of Ruston, sisters Sara McMath of Bryan, Texas, and Peggy Mattisonof Mobile, Alabama, sister in law Rosalyn Adcox of Atlanta, Georgia, brother in law Turner Brown of Vicksburg, Mississippi, 6 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe W. Adcox and Mary Johnson Adcox, a brother John Edward Adcox and a sister Elizabeth Brown.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Tommy Adkins, Jerry Arledge, Glenn Aycock, Rodney Banks, Don Nelson, Bob Patterson, Kirby Ramsey, and A.L. Williams.

Memorials in honor of Billy J. Adcox may be made to: Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, First Baptist Church of Ruston Children’s Building Fund. Special thanks to Premier Hospice,The Arbor and Terrace of Ruston, and the Woodlawn High School 1966 football team.
