Hazel Elizabeth Abbott, 92, of Fayetteville, passed away August 10, 2016. Hazel was born in Winchester, TN, and at the age of 18 moved to Atlanta, GA where she married Bill Abbott upon his return from WWII.
They moved to Chicago, IL, where Hazel worked as a Telephone Operator. When they moved back to Georgia, they settled in Fayetteville and loved this community. Hazel and Bill owned A&T Supermarket in Fayetteville, GA and were members of Fayetteville First Baptist Church for over 40 years. Hazel loved watching birds, working puzzles, drinking coffee, and singing.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Abbott; parents Dick Taylor and Bessie Bell Gipson Berryhill; and siblings Thelma Berryhill, Frank S. Berryhill, Virginia Ruth Berryhill, Elsie M. Korban, Ruby L. Berryhill, Pearl Frances Langley, and Edna C. Rosser.
She is survived by her daughter Sandra L. Cornell (Charles); grandson Brian J. Cornell (Laura); great-grandchildren Colby James Cornell and Madison Johnston; and nieces and nephews Janice Morris, Jean Swanson, Myrtle Spencer, Donald Berryhill, Terry Berryhill, Diane Abbott, William Harold “Bill” Abbott, and Mike Abbott.
A funeral service will be held Friday, August 12, 2016, at 11:00AM, at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Rev. Jack Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016, from 4:00-6:00pm, at the funeral home.
