Dr. Alvin R. Aller died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 1995, in Nampa.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Nampa College Church of the Nazarene. The Rev. Daniel Ketchum will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell Services are under direction of the Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.

Alvin R. Aller was born Sept. 5, 1906, in southwest Kansas near Johnson, to Will and Loma Aller.

After studying music and history at Bethany, Okla., Peniel College, he obtained his B.A. degree in biology from Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kan., and an M.S. degree in biology from Kansas State University. Marrying Florence Snowbarger in 1930, Alvin was vice president, then acting president of Bresee College in Hutchinson, Kan., before moving to Nampa, Idaho to teach history, biology and pilot training at Northwest Nazarene College (NNC) from 1936 to 1942. He was a co-founder of the Nampa Philharmonic Society, annually giving Handel's "Messiah." Appointed an officer in the Naval Air Force in 1942, he taught navigation on bases in Washington state, Indiana and Florida. Leaving the Navy as a lieutenant commander in 1946, he obtained his PhD. in botany from Oregon State University in 1949.

Returning to NNC as chair of the division of natural science and mathematics and professor of biology, he was a founder and officer of the Idaho Academy of Sciences, and a (summer) ranger naturalist at Glacier National Park.

From 1858 until his retirement in 1972, Alvin was a botany professor at the Univerity of Idaho where he was a leader at the Campus Christian Center and founder-sponsor of Bresee Fellowship. He gave the Layman's Challenge at the Governor's Prayer Breakfast in 1972.

In 1980 the Allers moved to Tucson, Ariz., to be near their grandchldren. Returning to Nampa in 1985, he helped establish the NNC Arboretum. Florence died in 1993, the year Alvin published his autobiography, "From Kansas Cowpuncher to University Professor: One Pilgrim's Progress." Author of a dozen published professional papers and elected to American Men of Science, Gamma Sigma Delta, Leaders in American Sicence, Phi Delta Lambda, Phi Kappa Phi and Sigma Xi, he was a also a member/officer of the Lions Club for 30 years.

But Alvin will be remembered more than anything as a man who had experienced God's Love, and lived his life in love for, and giving to, his Savior, and to others.

Alvin is survived by his brother, Earl of Spokane, Wash.; his son, . . . ; and by grandchildren, . . . [two].

The family requests no flowers, but suggests donations be sent to the Alvin R. Aller Biology Scholarship Fund, c/o NNC, 623 Holly, Nampa 83666.
