Menn J. Ideus, 94, of Beatrice died at the Beatrice Good Samaritan on Tuesday, morning, September 6, 2016. He was born March 8, 1922 at Cortland and was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell.

He attended Townsend School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from September 1942 to October 1945 in England, Germany and France.

He was a member of the Spobow Post #253 of the American Legion of Cortland for 71 years. He was also a member of Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. Menn married Emma Johnson on April 25, 1948 at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell and they were married 55 years.

He farmed all his life near Cortland. Menn sold Pioneer seeds, milked cows, raised cattle and hogs. He enjoyed taking bus trips with his wife, Emma and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include five sons, Marlan Ideus and wife Sherrie of Amherst, Eldon Ideus and wife Gaynelle of Pickrell, Calvin Ideus of Wilber, James Ideus and wife Valoree of Martell and Glenn Ideus and wife Tracy of Cortland; one daughter, Brenda Smith and husband Dennis of Norfolk; 12 grandchildren, Angela Kramer and husband Steve of Lincoln, Audrey Ideus of Omaha, Caroline Ideus of Martin, TN, Stephanie Ideus of Martell, Hannah Geaghan and husband Stephen of LaVista, Macy Ideus of Council Bluffs, IA, Adam Ideus of Martell, Rachel Smith of Lincoln, Miranda Smith of Norfolk, Trenn Hoffman-Ideus, Joey Hoffman-Ideus and Ethan Hoffman-Ideus all of Cortland; one great-granddaughter, Emery Kramer of Lincoln; one sister-in-law, Christina Aden of Adams; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Margaretha Holz Ideus; his wife Emma, who died September 24, 2003; one brother, Albert Ideus and wife Dorothy; a half-sister, Hilda Aden Otto; three half-brothers, Gerd Aden, Henry Aden and Bruno Aden.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 10, 2016 at 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell with Pastor Heather Brown officiating.

Burial will be in the Christ Lutheran Cemetery of rural Pickrell.

A family prayer service will be held at 10:15 A.M. at the church on Saturday. Military graveside honors will be conducted by Spobow Post #253 of the American Legion of Cortland. A memorial has been established to Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery with Delwyn and Elaine Sugden in charge. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice from 8:00 A.M. Thursday until 9:00 P.M. Friday with the family meeting and greeting friends from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday and at the church one hour preceding the services on Saturday.
