Marilyn Joyce Abbott, age 83, of 1533 Fifth Street, Boone died June 18, 2013, at the Stratford Nursing and Rehab Center in Stratford.

Marilyn was born on May 27, 1930, in Blanchard, Iowa, the daughter of Jesse and Evelyn (Russell) Beckley. She graduated from Ames High School and attended Iowa State University.

On October 12, 1952, Marilyn married Robert Abbott in Ames.

Marilyn worked as a cook for the athletic training table at Iowa State University at Wallace-Wilson Halls from 1963 to 1990.

In her younger years, she was a Little League coach and certified umpire and she was active in softball and bowling leagues.

She was an avid Iowa State football and basketball fan and also a Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed watching television, especially baseball games.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother Larry Beckley.

She is survived by a son Robert Abbott, Jr. and his wife Milly of Ogden; a daughter Christy Jo Abbott of Boone; two brothers, Jay Beckley and wife Bernice of Edmond, OK and Russell Beckley and wife Dorothy of North Platte, NE; two sisters Patty Rusch and husband Franklin of Algona and Willa Curta of Davenport; numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great nephews; and grand-dogs George and Brenna.

Funeral services are Friday, June 21, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Gina Spohnheimer officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.

Friends may call at Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation continues on Friday from 8 a.m. to service time.

In memory of Marilyn, memorials may be directed to the family.
