Funeral services for Andrew J. Swanson, 69-year-old Rosevale farmer who passed away at his home 13 miles north of Ord Saturday, Oct. 19, were held at Sowl's chapel Monday afternoon, with interment in Ord cemetery following. Mr. Swanson had been ill several months.
Born in Sweden on Dec. 20, 1865, Andrew Swanson came to the United States when a small boy and grew to manhood in Chicago, coming to Nebraska in February, 1883, and locating at Ord, later homesteading in the southern edge of Garfield county where he lived until his death Saturday evening. He was united in marriage Dec. 7, 1892 to Elizabeth C. LeMasters and four children came to bless the union, one dying in infancy. Left to mourn are the faithful and loving wife, two sons, Roy A., and Herman, one daughter, Norma, and three grandchildren, all of whom live near Ericson, Nebr. He is also survived by one brother, Charles, of Chicago, and by two sisters, Mrs. Henrietta Holm, of Chicago, and Mrs. Bertha S. Johnson, of Ogden, U. At an early age Mr. Swanson was confirmed in the Lutheran church, which faith he held throughout his life. He was a faithful and devoted husband, a loving father and a friend and good neighbor to all. During his last illness his suffering was great but he bore it patiently to the end without a word of complaint. The last rites Monday were conducted by Rev. Mearl C. Smith and pallbearers were friends and neighbors of the Joint and Rosevale communities.
