From " HISTORY OF SCHLEY COUNTY, GEORGIA", compiled by the Schley County Preservation Society, W. H. Wolfe & Associates, Roswell, Ga, 1882 ed, p. 147: "Annie Alridge, youngest born 5 Oct 1917 in Schley County. She attended Schley County Schools. She completed four years of college at Ft. Valley State and did further study at Albany State and Tuskegee Institute. She taught school in Schley County for 35 years and one year each in Marion, Crawford and Dodge Counties. She retired in 1975. She married J. C. Rumph, who died March 19, 1976. She resides in Fort Valley. Annie is the first black female elected official in Peach County. She is a member of the Peach County Board of Commissioners, member of the Chamber of Commerce and Citizenship Education Committee. She is affiliated with the Kay School for the mentally retarded student. She is a member of the Saint Peter A.M.E. Church and serves as Chairman of the Stewards Board, Lay Organization."
