William "Morris" and Matilda Wachlin married 23 July 1864 in Adams county, Illinois.

Per his will and probate papers, William Moritz "departed this life October 15th 1910 at Quincy, Adams county, Illinois." A different paper in the same packet put the date as October 23rd 1910.

His widow is listed in said document as Matilda Moritz. His/their children are listed as: Dora Morton [Horton], Julia Abbath, Edward C. Moritz, Frank Moritz, Lillian Duvall. His deceased son, John Moritz' children are listed as: "Willo" [Willa?] Meehan, Edward Moritz, Mildred Moritz.

The will, naming Matilda Moritz Executrix without bond, was signed by William Moritz 13 October 1910.

June 18, 1888, William Moritz had applied for an "invalid pension" (disability), based upon his service with Company E, 48th Illinois Infantry.

November 4, 1910, Matilda Moritz applied for a widow's pension based upon her husband's service in Company E, 48th Illinois Infantry.

His children are listed in his obituary (which put his date of death as 16 October, 1910) as: William, Edward, Frank, Mrs. Dora Horton of Newport Arkansas, Mrs. Charles Abbott [Julia Abbath], and [Lillian] Mrs. John Duvall, both of Quincy.

He was a member of John Wood Post No. 96 of the G. A. R., and of the South Side Boat Club in Quincy Illinois.

He worked as a boat builder, and was one of the founding organizers of the South Side Boat Club, with an early meeting held at his own residence. The club developed oarsmen and promoted ethical boat sports.

He passed away from heart failure, at his Quincy Illinois residence, a few hours after "a hearty supper." A physician was called, but to no avail.

The funeral of the late William Moritz will take place Thursday afternoon at 3 o'clock from the residence, 632 Madison street. The G. A. R. will have charge of the services. Friends invited to attend.
