ABBOTT, THOMAS S., SR. - age 75, of South Knoxville, passed away on Tuesday, November 4, 2003 at home after a 3-year illness. Member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Tom worked for the Knox Department Store for 24 years and the Thurston Freight Line as a dispatcher for 10 years. Active in masons, he was a member of Rockford Lodge #469 F&AM, 33rd Degree Scottish Rite, and Kerbela Shrine Temple. Tom was director of makeup for the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Research Lodge for Tennessee and the Eagle's Club. Air Force veteran of World War II. Tom was preceded in death by parents, Roy and Nellie Abbott and son, Rodney Abbott. Survived by wife of 53 years, Betty Jean Elliott Abbott son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Karen Abbott, Jr. daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Kenneth Wallen grandchildren, Scott, Greg and Emily Abbott, Wayne, Vic and Sabrina Wallen, Ashley and Jonathan Beeler 7 great-grandchildren sisters, Betty Boruff, Nancy Bell and Dorothy Abbott several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Friday, Berry Funeral Home Chapel, with a Masonic service to follow at 8 PM.
