Lyons - Mr. Robert L. “Joe” Aaron, age 78, of Lyons, died Saturday, January 7, 2017 at his home, after a sudden illness. He was a native of Hagan, and grew up there and in Toombs County. He entered the U.S. Army in 1954, retired in 1976 as Sergeant First Class and was a Drill Sergeant. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and was the recipient of The Bronze Star Medal for Heroism. He moved back to Toombs County after his retirement from the Army, and retired again as a truck driver. He was Baptist by faith, and was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Dorsey Aaron; a son-in-law, Tony Wilds; parents, Elbert and Margarete Hutto Aaron; and two sisters, Betty Williams and Mary Clements.

Mr. Aaron is survived by one daughter, Kitty Aaron Wilds; two sons, Guy Aaron and Dale Aaron, all of Lyons; one sister, Annette Oliver and husband Virgil of Warner Robins; seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 11th at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with his son, Guy Aaron, officiating. Burial will follow at 3:00 p.m. in Bulloch Memorial Gardens in Statesboro with Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00.
