Lois was raised and schooled in Leadore, ID. She and J. Lynn Steele were married August 29, 1953 in Salmon. They made their home in Leadore, where Lois worked as a clerk at the Leadore Store and later worked brushing hay fields.
In the Spring of 1964, they relocated to Carlton, Oregon to be near family and raise their daughter, Diana. Lois picked beans and berries and then went to work for Oakwood Glen. In 1969 Lois began working in food service at Linfield College. She remained there until her retirement in 1998.
Her hobbies included gardening and crocheting. Lois was a member of the Yamhill LDS Church. She was also active in the church gardening club.
