Russell was born on January 5,1927 to Joseph Bird & Minnie Alice(Raney/Rainey)Casteel in a small town they called "Struggleville OK. He was the last of nine children born to my grandparents. He grew up in a 2 room shack, where they attached a tent to the back. He remembers his mother lining the bare stud walls with newspaper to keep out the cold. He went to High School in Seminole OK until the 10th grade, before moving to San Diego, California, where he graduated from Kearney High School in 1945. However, he missed his graduation because he was called to active duty for the Army Air Corps on June 16, 1945. His mother went to graduation to pick up his diploma, so proud of the only child to graduate high school.
He met my mother, Beverly Jean Crowe while skating at the local rink, where she knocked him down on the floor. They married on April 28, 1951.When he first asked her to marry him, she said no. After that, she had to ask him to marry her. I remember hearing that story while growing up.
Together, they had four girls, he lost a steak dinner bet with his mother on the sex of each child for three children. His mother passed away before the last baby (me) was born.
Dad loved to build things, he built the house that we grew up in. It still stands today, although it was moved to a new location. He also loved Model T Fords, and we were lucky enough to go for rides in his beloved car on Sunday afternoons. Later he sold the car, then bought another Model T to build.
My Dad & Mom had a happy 36 years together before cancer took Mom home to be with the Lord. Dad never thought he would find a true love like that ever again, but he found it with Nancy Rae Hausbeck, whom he married on March 12, 1988. She gave him so much joy and they had a wonderful 28 years together filled with one adventure after the other, for which we will forever be grateful to Nancy. With her we acquired two brothers and another sister. We became a family, and had many years of love and family fun. He lived a full life until he passed away at 90 years old. He is now in the loving arms of his Father, Jesus Christ.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters, Karen Stuckey (Joe), Judy Casteel, Lori Rhea (Steve), and Marla Casteel. His step daughter Sandy Blackwell(Brian), and Paul Hausebeck(Marianne). He was predeceased by a stepson John Hausbeck. He has 7 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
