Clyde L. Ackerman, 88, of Sioux Falls, SD died Friday, October 31, 2014 at Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, SD. His funeral service will be 10:30 AM Wednesday, November 5 at First Presbyterian Church, Sioux Falls, with burial at Hills of Rest Memorial Park. Visitation begins at 5:00 PM Tuesday, November 4 at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Clyde L. Ackerman, son of Coygn and Vesta (Strong) Ackerman, was born August 7, 1926 in Bridgewater, SD. He grew up in the area and graduated from Canistota High School.

Clyde entered the US Army Air Corps on January 26, 1945 at Kansas City, KS and served during World War II. Clyde married Zulla Miller on March 25, 1945 in Amarillo, TX. He was honorably discharged on February 11, 1946 at Shelby, MS.

Following his honorable discharge, Clyde lived and worked in Missouri and Oklahoma. He then returned to Bridgewater for a short time before settling in Sioux Falls, SD, where he began his career with John Morrell and Company. Clyde married Jessie Bass on May 23, 1970 in Sioux Falls. He held several positions at Morrell’s before retiring as a corporate cost accountant in 1989.

Clyde was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served as a greeter for many years. He was a member of Unity Masonic Lodge 130, A.F. & A.M. and American Legion Post 15. He was thrilled to take an Honor Flight to Washington, DC. He enjoyed woodworking. Clyde also volunteered countless hours with Good Samaritan Assisted Living and was honored by them as a Volunteer of the Year.

Grateful for having shared his life are two children, Roger Ackerman and his wife, Shirley, Jordan, MN, Cynthia Weber and her husband, Charles, Marion, SD; two step-sons, James Bass, Lansing, KS, Thomas Bass and his wife, Carla, Renner, SD; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerald Ackerman, Independence, MO; three step-brothers, Loyde Canida, Cole Camp, MO, Carrol Canida and his wife, Monna, Cole Camp, MO, Carl Canida, Las Vegas, NV; two step-sisters, Mary Heavner, Cole Camp, MO, Wilma Brauer and her husband, Ray, Cole Camp, MO; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie, on February 25, 2007; his parents; four brothers, Lyle, Floyd, Robert and Donald Ackerman; two step-brothers, Lester and Claude Canida; and a step-sister, Hazel Kreisel.
