Bertha M. Abbott, of Stearns, Kentucky, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018, at the Jean Waddle Care Center at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, Kentucky. She had attained the age of 86 years, one month and 27 days.
Born in McCreary County, Kentucky, on February 9, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Wilburn and Besada (Rednour) Bell. Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband, Joe Murphy and her second husband, Artie Abbot, a daughter, Lena Vicey Thompson, two step-sons: Willie and Deny Murphy, two step-daughters: Martha and Bessie Bryant, four brothers: Ermon Bell, Arvil Bell, Terry Bell and Wilburn Bell Jr. and four sisters: Minnie Woodson, Clona Cooper, Flonnie Bell and Clara Bell, and a granddaughter, Jo Lynn Thompson.
Surviving family include a step-son Milford Murphy, two sisters: Evellean Keith of Monticello, Kentucky and Emma Redman of Monticello, many step-grandchildren, great grandchildren, and a host of nephews and nieces.
Bertha was a homemaker and member of the Oak Grove Church at Bell Farm. She enjoyed cooking, fishing and camping and all kinds of flowers. She loved her home and her family and spending time with them.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., in the chapel of Pine Knot Funeral Home with burial to follow at the Mt. View Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
