Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Kenning, 90, of 721 1/2 Adams, died in St. Mary hospital, Sunday evening at 7:30. She had been a patient in the hospital since November 28.
A daughter of Anton and Elizabeth (Teitemacher) Heiman, she was born in Dyer, Indiana, February 8, 1858. She had lived in Quincy for 56 years.
She was a member of St. Mary's church, the Altar Society, and the Order of Sacred Heart of the church. She was married to Joseph G. Kenning, November 13, 1879.
Mrs. Kenning and her husband were in the grocery business in QUincy for 50 years. They established their first store at Eighth and Kentucky in 1898. After a year in that location, they moved to Seventh and Adams, where they maintained a store for seven years.
In 1905, the store was moved to 721 Adams, where it has been located since; and is now under the management of a son, Frank G. Kenning.
Mrs. Kenning retired from active work in the grocery when she was sixty-eight. Her husband died about eleven years ago.
About a year after her husband died, she fractured her hip in a fall, and had not been well since that time.
