Virginia Alene Skaggs Abell DeSpain, 92, of Hodgenville, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at Sunrise Manor Nursing Home in Hodgenville with her family by her side. She was born Feb. 9, 1925, to the late Walter and Cora Howell Skaggs. She was a member of Ninth & O Baptist Church in Louisville.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert DeSpain; one sister, Jane Abell; an aunt, Cynthia Carter; and one niece, Brenda Gayle Skaggs.
She is survived by two sons, Roy (Brenda H.) Abell of Buffalo and Charles (Karen) Abell of Missoula, Mont.; one brother, Ernest B. (Yvonne) Skaggs of Buffalo; seven grandchildren, Rhonda (Billy) Whitlock, Ruth Abell, Andrea (Jon) Bell, Chad (Melissa) Abell, Seana Abell, Jessica (Matt) Ball and Tamatha Abell; nine great-grandchildren, Ellen, Ethan, Monique, Charles, Nicholas, Tyler, Kaitlynn, Adlin and Isis; two great-great-grandchildren, Elijah and Hadley Reiman; one niece, Betsy Tucker; and two nephews, Wayne Skaggs and Ronnie Skaggs.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the chapel of the William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel with Chaplain Steve Priddy officiating. Burial is in the Mount Tabor Baptist Church Cemetery.
Visitation is 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to Sunrise Manor activities department.
The William R. Rust Funeral Home Hodgenville Chapel, 612 N. Lincoln Blvd, Hodgenville, is in charge of arrangements.
