Donald Lee Adams, 89, of rural Winfield, Kansas, passed away Sunday evening, June 12, 2016 at his home.

Born April 11, 1927 in Arkansas City, Kansas, he was the son of John Henry and Amy Belle (Hunsaker) Adams.

He was raised and received his education in Dexter, graduating from Dexter High School in 1944. Shortly after graduating, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country under General Patton in WWII, receiving a Purple Heart for being wounded in combat.

Don was united in marriage to Lena Elizabeth Nusser on December 27, 1952. Don joined the National Guard and later the Army Reserve, retiring as a Full Bird Colonel after 37 years of service. In 1956 he went to work for Pomona Tile and later in 1962, Don began working for General Electric where he remained until retiring in 1986.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He also served as a board member for Rural Water District #5 and Liberty Township. He enjoyed cutting firewood, bailing hay, working on the farm, target shooting and was an avid deer hunter.

His family includes: His wife: Lena Adams of Winfield; His son: Kevin Adams and wife, Sue of Winfield; His daughter: Michele “Mitzi” Samms of Arkansas City; His grandson: Kolten Adams of Winfield; and His granddaughter: Laikyn Beckner and husband, Kevin of Winfield.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Ardonna Graham.

Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church.

Private family burial will take place at a later date.

A memorial has been established in Don’s name for Trinity Lutheran Church Elevator Fund. Contributions may be made through Miles Funeral Service.
