TED ROOSEVELT AARON
1924 - 2017

Ted Aaron was born on March 19, 1924, Russell County, Kentucky to William and Armilda (Stephens) Aaron.

He was inducted into the Army Air Force April 19, 1943, at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN, being discharged at the rank of Corporal, February 5, 1946. He served mostly overseas in the South Pacific, departing March 19, 1944 which was his 20th birthday.

He served in New Caledonia, April, 1944 to September 1944; Guadalcanal; the island of Biak, from November, 1944, to November, 1945, Tokyo, November 1945 to January 1946, serving longest with the 28th Depot Repair Squadron, 13th Air Depot Group. He repaired control services on bomber and cargo planes.

He received the following medals for his service in the New Guinea Campaign: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon, Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal and also earned the Occupational Medal. He was also a Carbine Sharpshooter.

Ted married Ida Jane Foley on February 28 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky. In October of 1947, they travelled with Jane’s parents, Leslie and Luona Foley, to Oregon. He and Jane had four children; Steve, Tom, Patricia and Cindy, and later welcomed nine grandchildren; Steven (1968-1973), Stephanie, (Ryan), Carly, Abraham, Cale, Ida Jane, Uriah, Josie and Madison, and seven great-grandchildren; Hazel, Felicity, Jaquin, Ky, Justice, Mabel and Pearl.

He worked as Business Agent for the Local Union International Woodworkers of America for over 20 years, Jane working as his secretary for ten years. He was later employed as Health and Welfare Trust coordinator for Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Oregon serving Northern California and Oregon for more than four years until he retired.

Ted served on the Sheridan City Council for 20 years, 10 terms as Council President.

His hobbies included hunting, (he enjoyed providing venison), elk, birds and fish for his family, as well as always planting a garden. He had excellent carpentry skills and graciously offered his services to assist with many building projects for family and friends, including volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. He proudly earned his black belt in Kung Fu after four years, at the age of 82, working his way up all eight belts.

His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, Jane, of 71 years; children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as his brothers and sisters and their families; nieces and nephews, enjoying many family hunting trips, and yearly visits to Kentucky, attending family reunions of more than 200 people, and he was always up for a friendly game of Rook or Pinnacle.

Surviving him besides his wife and children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are his brother, Henry; and sister, Willie Pearl.

He was predeceased by his parents: William Thomas and Armilda Jane; grandson, Steven Aaron; brothers: Vernon (Daisy), George (Ruth), Lilburn (Janis), Luther (Cletta), Loren (Doris) and Jim; sisters: Ella (James), Susie (Charlie), and Lula (Avery); and sisters-in-law: Eureka (Caleb) and Tina.
