Anton Anton "Tony" Aberle
(July 13, 1927 - December 9, 2016)
U.S. Veteran
The memorial service for Tony Aberle, 89, Napoleon, ND will be held Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church at 11:00 AM in Napoleon, ND. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
Tony Aberle the youngest of nine children of Joseph and Clara (Schumacher) Aberle was born July 13, 1927 on the farm in the St. Boniface area southwest of Napoleon, ND. At the age of seven Tony moved with the family to Napoleon, ND. One very vivid memory of life on the farm for Tony was this goose gander they had. He remembers that the gander always coming from some hiding place ready to chase Tony with flapping wings, hissing and on the run, whenever he saw Tony outside. Tony was scared very much so but the family dog Trixie would most times be there to protect him. Tony received his education at Napoleon Public School then known as Foster School District. In his younger years he worked on the farm for his sister Baltzer A. and Marion Weigel and brother Joe and Helen Aberle. He also worked for the Walter and Freda Brown Dairy on the west edge of Napoleon. Tony was drafted into the military at age 18 serving in the Navy on the USS St. Paul from December 1945 to October 1947. After his discharge Tony began doing carpenter work with Osborne McMillan Elevator Co. traveling wherever his work took him building and repairing grain elevators. Tony married Frances Oberlander on November 4, 1957. After their marriage he began working in the Napoleon area for Vance Kroeber Trucking and later working for Richard Schwartzenberger, Mike C. Sperle and John Johs as a carpenter, building many homes in the area, along with pole barns and whatever needed to be built retiring in 1992. Tony enjoyed fixing things that most thought impossible to fix. The greater the challenge the greater the reward of joy knowing he could do it and the end result looking pretty darn good. Tony enjoyed playing cards even playing Old Maid with Ava, Madie and Frances. He enjoyed doing Jig saw puzzles in earlier years and recent years Word Search. He enjoyed all western movies such as Gunsmoke, The Virginian and all the rest on channel 132. Frances thinks he could have acted some of the parts. Together Tony and Frances liked to watch Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud. When he was able and feeling good he enjoyed going to the Downtowner for a glass of red wine and conversation in place of morning coffee stops. Tony was a member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and rarely missed a Sunday until recently.
Tony died Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Napoleon Care Center, Napoleon, ND. He was 89 years old.
Tony is survived by his wife, Frances of 59 years; his older brother, Tom age 96, Napoleon Care Center; his sister, Jean Weber, age 100, Hillsboro, Oregon and many nieces and nephews whom he loved and was proud of. He was preceded in death by brothers, Joe Jr., Jake and Pete; sisters, Katie Fettig and Marion Weigel and three infant brothers (two being twins). Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice or the ND. Veterans Cemetery.
We are happy and sad for the loss of Tony. Happy because the Good Lord took him from his misery and pain and sad that we no longer see him sitting in the chair playing solitaire or watching one of his western movies. Thank you to the Napoleon Care Center staff for taking good care of Tony the last week of his life. God’s Blessing to all.
