Albert Calvin Adams, 90, died on May 12, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center, in Americus, Georgia. Albert was born on June 21, 1926, in Quitman County, Georgia, to the late Roscoe C. Adams and Ina Key Adams. 


He is preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, Mavis Sheet, his son, Glenn Adams, his grandson, Clay Adams, two of his brothers, Charles Adams and Elton Adams and one sister, Ruth Kirk. 

He is survived by his son, Terry (Debra) Adams of Preston, Georgia; six grandchildren, Nikki (Robert) Bryant, Missi (Joe) Durham, Crissi (Carson) Hinman, Dixie (Wayne) Rouse, Dustin Adams, Dillon Adams; 10 great grandchildren; and his sister, Evelyn (Lynn) Perry.


Albert was a proud United States of America Veteran of World War II. He served in Africa and France. 


He was one of the founders of Parker Heating & Air in Americus, Georgia. He was the founder of City Super Store, Adams Food Center, Adams Appliance and Terry's Sport Center. On top of this, he enjoyed being a cattle farmer.


Albert served on several Boards: Bank of Webster, RIO Grocery Warehouse and with Jimmy Carter on Middle Flint Development. He was recognized by Governor Nathan Deal, Lt. Governor Casey Cagle and former President Jimmy Carter on his 90th birthday. He was an avid fisherman and member of Good Sams Club. 


He truly loved his family and friends, especially his dog, "Zeke". The time he spent with all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren was filled with love. 


Special thanks are extended to the staff of Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia, Columbus Hospice based out of Columbus, Georgia, caregiver Debbie Campbell and special friend, Helen Adams. 


The body lay in state at the home of Terry and Debra Adams, in Preston, Georgia. The Adams' home was open for visitation after 5:00 pm Saturday, May 13, 2017. The family received friends all day on Sunday, May 14, 2017.


A Graveside Service was held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 11:00 AM, at the Preston City Cemetery. The United States of America Flag was presented to Terry with the Army's thanks for the loyal service that his father had rendered to the United States of America. A military unit based out of Ft. Benning played Taps in honor of his service. The Reverends' Raymond Smith and Greg Kirk conducted the graveside service. A favorite song, "Go Rest High on the Mountain", of Mr. Albert's was played during the service. 

Members of several local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) were present to honor Mr. Albert.
