Calvin Cornelius Abner, age 77, a licensed racehorse trainer, husband of Gertrude Mansfield Abner, died Tuesday, January 17, 2017, at Saint Joseph Hospital, in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born October 25, 1939, in Estill County, Kentucky, a son of the late Raymond and Daisy Puckett Abner.

In addition to his wife, Calvin is survived by: four daughters, Trudy Lynn Moore, of Nicholasville, Valena (Bradley) Sears, of Paris, Kimberly Ferrell, of Paris, and Becky Rhodes, of Georgia; two sons, Calvin E. (Beth) Abner, of Berea, and Lewis (Melanie) Abner, of Nicholasville; a sister, Carol Sue (Paige) Stephens, of Toccoa, Georgia; two brothers, James Abner, of Richmond, and Ray C. Abner, of Harrison County; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: five sisters, Virginia Gayle Modica, Betty Case, Alberta Jefferson, Linda Gail Spencer and Audrey May Abner; and two brothers, Kenneth Eugene and Roy Allen Abner.

Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, at Hinton-Turner Funeral Home, with funeral services at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be in Puckett Cemetery, in Irvine. Casket bearers will be Calvin Eugene Abner, Lewis Abner, Anthony Adams, Josh Adams, John Abner and Raymond Abner.
