James Dillon "Jim" Herrington, 93, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at Comanche County Hospital in Coldwater, KS. Born March 9, 1924, at Huntington, TX, he was the son of James Gordon and Lola (Walker) Herrington. Jim was a longtime resident of Coldwater, KS, moving there in 1951. He graduated from McCamey Texas High School in 1941 and attended Tulsa University. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1942-1945, then serving in the Air National Guard for many years. On October 28, 1945, he married Helen Allderdice at Coldwater, KS. She preceded him in death on October 21, 2007. Jim was president of Coldwater National Bank for many years and was also a farmer and rancher. His memberships include: Coldwater United Methodist Church; Coldwater Lion's Club; Comanche Masonic Lodge #295; Coldwater City Council; U.S.D. #300 Board of Education; President of Independent Bankers Association of America; and Founding Member of Community Bankers Association of Kansas. Jim was actively involved in improving the community, leading efforts for projects including quality affordable housing, establishing the Comanche County Medical Clinic, and building the Big Toy Park. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Elizabeth Adams; one brother: Doyle Herrington; and one sister: Venoy Meier. He is survived by one daughter: Margaret Hamor (Mike) of Coldwater, KS; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Jamie Hamor of Manhattan, KS, Aaron and family, Emily Hackney (Klete; Kelsey, Kirstin, and Isabel) of Coldwater, KS, Andrew Hamor (Kiley) of Austin, TX, and Adam Hamor (Brian Herschberger) of Fairfield, CT.
