Founder of Abercrombie and Fitch.

Abercrombie was born in Baltimore, Maryland to John and Elizabeth(nee Daniel) Abercrombie. While attending Baltimore City College he majored in Civil Engineering and topography - two of his many careers aside from clothing. He was chief of survey for the Norfolk & Western Railroad for 10+ years.

Abercrombie's big break came in 1892 when he founded a sportswear company for hunters and fishermen with close friend Ezra Fitch. Their first store was located on South Street in lower Manhattan. Fitch later bought the company in 1917 when Abercrombie began "The David T. Abercrombie Company" another sportswear company in New York City.

Abercrombie died intestate in Ossining at his country estate, Elda, overlooking the Hudson Valley and Long Island Sound.
