He served as a Trustee of the Wendy's National Advertising Program. He was a founding Director of MidCarolina Bank and chaired several committees in that capacity. An Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow, he was President of the Cherokee Council and instrumental in the merger with the Old North State Council. He served as Assistant Scout Master for Troop 17 at First Presbyterian Church for over 16 years. He was a registered member of the Boy Scouts of America for over 40 years. A James E. West Fellow, he also received the Alamance District Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver Award.
