Mrs. Nellie Mae Brown, 74, died at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, August 25, 1968, in Freeman-Greene County Hospital. Surviving are five daughters, Mr. Mary Bryant, Mrs. Thelma Holden, Mrs Rebecca Chapman, Mrs. Barbara Truitt and Mrs. Marie Workman; a son, Samuel Benavole; a foster son, Dewey Kenworthy, all of Linton; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Servies will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Anderson-Poindexter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ronald Henwood officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

She was the daughter of Philander and Obedience A. (Bingham) Abbitt. She was first married to Domenico Benavole and had children: Mary Ellen, Samuel A., and Thelma L. She married a second time to Ora Phillips and a third time to Dewey Brown and had children: Rebecca Jane, Barbara Jean and Maude Marie Brown. They divorced in the late 1930's.
