Born December 18, 1920, in Acworth, GA, she was a daughter of the late Steve Samuel Cantrell and the late Daisy Pearl Decicle Cantrell. First married to the late Lt. Nathan Paul Abel, she was a homemaker and member of Midway Presbyterian Church.
She was educated in the schools of Atco and Cartersville, GA and graduated from Cartersville High School in 1938. She furthered her education at Atlanta School of Commerce and worked for Swift and Co. for several years before working for the U.S. War Department during World War II. She was later employed by Clemson Extension as a diet and nutrition instructor, visiting homes in the rural area of Clarendon County, SC. Her interests included history and genealogy, and she was appointed to the SC Historical Commission during the 1970s and helped organize and was a charter member of the Clarendon County Historical Society. She was a trained vocalist and was Choir Director at Midway Presbyterian Church for a number of years where she was active in The Women of the Church and taught Bible studies and Sunday School classes.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Cantrell.
