Son of the late Absalom William and Nancy Jane (Davenport) Spruill II. He was a retired businessman and a member of First Christian Church. He is survived by his widow, Catherine (Whitmer) Spruill; a son, Lt. Col. W. Robert Spruill, Marietta, Georgia, and three grandchildren.

First marriage was to Maybelle Irene Bracken on July 12, 1910, in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania.
